Acai By Selva

If there’s one thing I have to eat for the rest of my life it would be Acai. I literally ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner once or twice before and till today I am still not sick of it. For those of you who reside in Singapore, the only acai places available are Project Acai, Afterglow, Haakon, Superloco, and Absolute Acai (pretty limited options if you ask me). Plus, a bowl of acai is not cheap here in Singapore, it easily costs up to $15 SGD ($11 USD). So instead of spending my money and time traveling, I took the liberty to make my own Acai smoothie bowls and smoothie at the comfort of my own home! With courtesy of Selva foods, I allowed my imagination to run wild and did a little twist on my very own version of an Acai Smoothie bowl, adding fruits and a myriad of flavours that would satiate my taste buds.

What is acai? What are the health benefits?

I think I mentioned this before but I’ll just tell you guys again. Acai is a superfood berry which is high in antioxidants, giving you better looking and radiant skin. It also promotes weight loss as it is said that the pulp in the Acai aids in reducing the negative effects of a high-fat diet. Click here to read more on the health benefits. I personally eat it because I love the flavour 😛

So what makes Selva so different?

Well, firstly they are handcrafted right here in Singapore. They are: organic, free-trade, vegan, soy-free, free of preservatives, colouring, sweeteners. In my opinion, unlike other Acais out there where its really icy, Selva’s Acai has a really distinct flavour to it in which you can truly taste the authenticity of the acai berries. It’s actually already pre-blended with coconut water and couple of other goodness, so you could just eat it straight out of the tub. But I decided to jazz it up by adding a little more flavour to it 😉

I couldn’t come up with a more cheesy name than that.

Ingredients (for base):

3 tbsp of Selva’s Acai

1/4 cup of Rice Milk

1 tbsp Coconut Cream

1 Frozen Banana

1 tsp Praha Plant Protein Powder

Chopped up Strawberries

Speculoos Cookie Butter

Coconut flakes

Chia Seeds

Pumpkin Seeds

Note that you don’t necessarily have to follow my recipe exactly, just adjust it to your liking 🙂 However, the frozen banana is essential for you to get the ice cream like texture. Please remember not to let the blender run, but instead, pulse it. This is to prevent it from becoming a smoothie.

3 tbsp Selva’s Acai

2 Chopped up Dates

1/2 cup Coconut water

1/2 cup Rice Milk

1 tbsp Praha Plant Protein Powder

1 Frozen Banana

1/2 Mango (optional)

1 tbsp Coconut cream

As you can see, I have a clear obsession for coconuts. If you don’t really fancy bananas, frozen mangoes go just as well too. If you wish to purchase them, head down to their website here  to sign up! It’s 500g per tub which makes about 5 servings of goodness. And it’s going at an affordable price of $25 (one acai bowl typically costs $15) ! It has a shelf live of 6 months in the freezer, so you have all the time to make it 🙂 A little perk from ordering from them is your first delivery from them is free and they will deliver straight to your house!

Alternatively, they are stocking at:

The Organic Grocer

Four Seasons Organic Market

Also, the cafe I used to work at, The Living Cafe, is also serving Selva’s Acai! There’s no better place to grab an Acai bowl than at The Living Cafe where you’re surrounded with positive vibes and energy from our lovely staff!

Hope you’ll have fun experimenting just as I did 🙂 Just don’t get too addicted just as I am 😛
