Getting my own domain!

Hey guys! I’m really sorry for not posting regularly. I do my best to post once every 2 days at least. The reason why I’m so busy is because I’m working on my very own website! So instead of gooyokers.wordpress.com it’ll be gooyokers.com instead! I’ve been spending a lot of time and effort into designing my website, installing plugins, generating more content and importing/exporting of content. This is going to be a huge step for me and for you guys. Why I even settled on getting my own domain is because of You my awesome and supportive readers. I just want to say a big thank you for being so encouraging and special shout out to those who went on a Vegan diet for even just a few days! I’m so proud of you guys for doing so! 🙂

Truly, its heartening to know that this is an avenue for you guys to know more about Veganism and how my life practically revolves around it. Venturing further into blogging will be tough yet exciting! You can expect more content related to Veganism, products I use, what I eat in a day, where I’ve been, and my travels. Of course, I’ll definitely put in more effort into photos and videos.

In the meantime, I’ll still be posting here until my website is ready (which I hope will be in less than 1 week) . If you like what I’ve shared with You on my blog, please like and share it on Facebook or other social media platforms. Your support means the world to me.

Thank You 🙂

Around The World with $20

It was B’s birthday on the 15 of May and so I decided to take him on an adventure ‘around the world’ . One of Singapore’s most iconic feature is our Gardens By the Bay. They have 2 domes : Cloud and Flower domes. Why is it ‘around the world with $20’ ? Its because they have a wide range of plant species from all over the world and it cost $20 for Singaporeans to get entry into both domes. A reasonable price to pay for a tour around the world. The flower dome features plants from Mediterranean and other semi- arid subtropical regions. The dome is huge (about 75 Olympic sized swimming pools. Its complemented by the changing of flower fields every season. Hence even if you have already been to Gardens by the Bay, its always still worth going the second time when a new season arrives. As for this season (spring), it was tulips.

Staying Motivated to Exercise

If it doesn’t challenge you, It won’t change you

-Fred Devito

Living a healthy life does not just involve eating the right foods. Thats just 80% of what makes you healthy. The other 20% is exercising regularly. Regularly meaning 2-3 times a week at least. While I was still in JC, I didn’t exercise much. I thought running once a month would suffice. But it was not only after A levels was over that I began to experience a drastic improvement in my overall health, weight and appearance. Results became apparent simply by dedicating some time to exercise.

Week #2 of May

FOOD OBSESSION:

Vegan doughnuts by Well Dressed Salad Bar! I can’t believe I only discovered this 2 weeks ago. Initially Nat and I thought we could get some off the shelf when we headed there about a month ago, but no. It wasn’t until after I followed well dressed on instagram that I found out we’re supposed to pre-order on Fridays only. These petite doughnuts come in many AMAZING flavours of which I chose: Cinnamon Sugar, Original Sugared, Oreo, Green Tea Pistachio, PB Jelly, Dark chocolate almond, Vegan Cheesecake. My favourite was the Oreo and the Cinnamon Sugar! 😛 They’re going at $2 per doughnut and because they’re really tiny (5.5cm in width), I bought 20 doughnuts at $20.50 (the 50 cents was because the Cheesecake flavour is a premium one). All of them tasted legitimately like actual doughnuts. Apparently, they’re made out of coconut oil and oat milk only for the base. :O Its such a pity they don’t sell these everyday. Then again, if they do, I’ll probably be stuffing myself with it everyday too 😛 . So if you wish to order these awesome doughnuts, please DM them on instagram on Friday before 8pm, and you’ll be able to collect it after 4pm on Saturday.

Who dare say Vegans are missing out on life?

SONG OBSESSION:

Halsey Badlands Album

Halsey’s voice is seriously dope. I went to searching for Halsey’s albums after hearing her song ‘Haunting’ on the Abercrombie and Fitch Summer playlist (which I wrote about in my previous weekly obsession). My top 2 tracks that I always loop: Castle and Control. She also has a Huntsman Winter’s War version too (she looked stunning there). The song kinda reminded me of Lorde for some reason or at least I get the same vibe.

Oh and I recently launched a mail list page. So please click on it and check it out 🙂 Basically, you’ll get a chance to receive regular updates from Gooyokers and possibly some discount codes on health products 😉

<So sorry this Weekly Obsession post came out 3 days late>

Inspiring Individuals

Last Saturday B and I headed to Hood Bar to support his fellow friends at a gig. Apparently, every Saturday Hood Bar will have guest performers on for ‘Original Night’. This means that these musicians will have a chance to showcase a few of their own self written songs. I’m so heartened by the fact that more of such platforms are available for our local talents to show-off their creativity and sick skills. The arts scene in Singapore is finally picking up some speed.

#Review: Brownice

Firstly, the decor… wasn’t the best I’d say, I heard that they recently renovated but seems pretty meh to me as if they didn’t. Secondly, the Menu is really extensive and its 100% Vegan! So thats a major plus point 🙂 We (bryan and I) ordered a ‘BBQ Chicken’ pizza. It was topped with soy chicken and Vegan cheese. And also, the pasta (which I forgotten which one it was but it had the word ‘cream and mushroom’ ) The pizza was great, especially if you’re looking for a meat-free alternative yet you miss the taste of meat. It taste deceivingly like meat. However, I don’t miss the taste of meat neither do I crave for it. If I was given a pizza that’s just topped with veggies, I’d rather that. Its more authentic and oriental that way.

The pasta on the other hand, wasn’t really up to our expectations. It said ‘creamy’ so we assumed it to have a creamy texture made up of cashews or cauliflower or something. The name of the dish was misleading itself. That aside, it was literally drenched in olive oil, pretty much like how aglio olio is but thats cos I try to avoid oil as much as possible thats why I didn’t enjoy it as much.

For dessert, we had a waffle with Gula-Melaka and Strawberry Mango ice cream. I was super amazed that the waffles were vegan! Brownice’s specialty is their ice cream which will never fail to surprise and disappoint. I tried almost all the flavours because I just couldn’t decide on which one to go with my waffles. The waffles taste distinctively different from a regular waffle though which I’m quite upset about. It was fluffy but it wasn’t as crispy and sweet/tasty as a regular waffle. Nonetheless, I still love them for being able to make them Vegan 🙂

Once again, the staff there are really friendly and patient with me, the lady allowed me to try every ice cream flavour available then 😛

Weight-loss Transformation

<left photo: Before Vegan, right photo: 1 year being Vegan>

I was never considered overweight (other than primary school) nor did I look really chubby. But I struggled a lot with my weight and body image even till this day. As I was scrolling through my photo album (on my phone), I came across my old photos and compared it to my recent photos. I was pretty shocked that I evidently lost weight/fat around my thigh area. When Bryan took photos of me, I’d always ask:

#Review: Sarnies

As a Vegan, there are several things I miss. One of my all time fav was llaollao aka yoghurt. However, in Singapore we’re so blessed to have COCOWhip (right) . This decadent dessert/treat has a yoghurt-like texture and best part is, it is only made using coconut water. Hence, absolutely guilt-free. I chose the original flavour but they had other awesome ones (which i have yet to try) like the flavour of the day, matcha, and others which I  forgotten. You’ll also have the option to top it off with sweet toppings. I chose chia seeds, goji berries and Vegan brownies. Lastly, I jazzed it up with salted caramel syrup 😛

What Suits You Best

The current generation is obsessed with trying to fit in. When someone popular/influential starts wearing a certain clothing/accessory, we’re inclined to purchase whatever they wear too. Most of these followers are teenage girls and guys. Its pretty apparent in the recent craze for snapbacks/nike rosche/ nike flyknits/ high waisted denim skirts. This creates a homogenous culture which lacks originality and creativity. Honestly, I’m guilty of this too. Just a few weeks ago, I saw one of my co-workers wearing her eye-liner both on top and bottom of her waterline that made her look super cool and swaggy. Plus she had awesome fashion sense. I tried that look for a few weeks after only to hear my mum say ‘You put too much makeup that makes you look older than Bryan’. Several days after, I looked at myself in the mirror and thought:
